princess (& friends)
I love all of Edwards photos. I found him when i was looking for images taken with Haselblad camera's and his came up. He is so inspiring to me because he captures the female form in all it's acts, in beauty, prostitution, in poses, and in weddings. I love the fuzziness he creates sometimes, and the colours in natural lighting. His distaste for weddings is humurous, and largely from obviously not being able to shoot what he wants and shooting the same photos over and over again to make some money, and getting incredibly bored by it. I find it stimulating, and an amazing work.
Whiterock
I just spent the afternoon in Whiterock. In my 30 years in this province, this was my second time there. It is truely a beautiful spot. Long beaches, massive trees, old beach houses (getting over taken by new jumbo homes), long streches of mom and pop cafes and restaurants. What i like about Whiterock, other then it's pure beauty is that it didn't have that attitude, it was incredibly down to earth and friendly. I ate lunch at Poultry in Motion. The owners knew my friends by name, and served me up a yummy breakfast burrito and fresh roasted potatoes. The owner tried to convince me to try her fresh raspberry muffins and the smell of them were incredibly intoxicating. I plan to go back to one to partake in bonfire and drink beer watching the glorious sun set over bay sometime over the summer.

Notte's Bon Ton is the devil
My dad has been buying cakes from this place forever. They are the devil. Pure sugary buttery melt in your mouth heaven. I curse my father for bringing a box of these treats home, plus a large birthday cake for me and my brother, plus a smaller cake if that wasn't enough. I have managed to eat around 1/2 of it and am sure i have just gained 10 pounds in the process. I am now addicted to high doses of sugar and in painful withdrawal.

Sick City
Want to know what's going around town? Now, with the help of a Twitter search function this site picks of key words in peoples tweets and posts them on this site. It would make sense the cities with higher populations will have more sick people. I just added Vancouver to the list. I think the flu/cold season is coming to an end but it would have been cool to see the stats a month ago when i was suffering from a sinus infection.

Shahzia Sikander
Shahzia Sikander (and by extension her work) is complexly situated. She is highly successful by Western art establishment standards, she is Muslim by background, Pakistani-born in this season of shock and awe gone grotesque; she is unveiled, jean clad, ultra hip; she is theoretically poised to deconstruct post colonial clichés, yet endemically subject to them (reviews of her work in publications as august as the New York Times casually mix up Shiva and Buddha in a kind of “they all look the same to me” faux pas).
Sikander studied classical painting in Pakistan, came West and hit the art world running straight out of Rhode Island School of Design in the mid ‘90s. Her work became a popular, stunning analogue for slippery categories at the heart of transnational practice, theory and experience--all of which query essentialist notions of race/nation as some intrinsic phenomenological condition.
In this vein, Sikander’s works of the last decade mix an oft ironic sampling of Western classicism with delicate 17th-century Mughal precision, and folksy and sensual Rajput variations. She is wont to commingle Eastern religion with Homeric clichés, broad abstract shapes found in the backgrounds and borders of miniatures with infinitely delicate natural description. She’s fond of treating a wall as a framed object, then letting her imagery dribble around a random corner so as to remind us of the fluid boundaries between pictorial and real space. The work can toss in the short-hand, chunky style of cartoon animation (a style also found in the more abstract art of the ancient Jain), and in fact, Sikander turns paintings into magical animated shorts.

Looks like Obama is opening up travel to Cuba. I was hoping to make it there this coming fall, and also hoping it would (selfishly) still be closed off to Americans. I wonder how much the country will change with the influx of American dollars and tourism.

Space Kidz
It's amazing how easy it is to connect to music from where you come from (and i am not talking about the Lover Boys). The fact that this is a local Vancouver band "The Clips" and this video is shot with sharp lighting in a west coast forest or park, can only bring back memories for us 'locals'. The title of the track and the melody of the track not only represent a time in my youth but i am guessing in there's as well. Running through forests wasted and as Space kid is something most of us west coasters can relate too.

What is art?
In 1973, after 17 stateless years, Christo became a United States citizen. In 1972, Christo and Jeanne-Claude began preparations for Running Fence: a fabric fence, made from steel posts and steel cables, running through the landscape and leading into the sea. The fence was to be 5.5 meters high and 40 kilometers long. For the project, 59 families of "ranchers" needed to be convinced and the permission of the authorities had to be obtained, so Christo and Jeanne-Claude hired nine lawyers. At the end of 1973 Christo and Jeanne-Claude marked the path of the fence with wooden stakes. On 29 April 1976 the work finally began after a long struggle against bureaucracy. Approximately 200,000 m2 of nylon fabric, 2050 steel posts and 145 km of steel cable were needed. On 10 September 1976 the work was completed. However, Christo and Jeanne-Claude had to pay a $60,000 fine, because they lacked permission for the coastal region.
I love how heated people get over what art is, and in that sense it becomes successful. I am just studying this for my final exam and have come across this documentary and find it fascinating.

no witness
I just discovered another form of photography called Camera Obscura (thanks to flickr). It's when you have a dark room but it reflects something happening outside that room. It's almost like a double exposure. I can see how this image works, but there are others where it looks like a projection rather then a reflection.

YOGI TEA LABELS
This tea without a doubt has become my favorite tea to buy. Not because of there delicous unique flavors but because the inspiring labels attached. This morning i woke up to : Let your heart guide you.
You can buy them at almost all the Supermarkets, but they are a little pricey ($8cnd) but they do go on sale at 1/2 off about once a month and i stock up then.
